A little about KHB

Kiss Hershey Back! is a township-wide cleanup effort led by the Penn State College of Medicine students to try and make the Sweetest Place on Earth also the Cleanest Place on Earth. This project was started in 2008 by five first year medical students who wanted to give back to the community. They kicked off their idea by seeking the support of the Derry Township Board of Supervisors and the Department of Public Works, engaging the local school districts, community groups and organizations, and businesses to talk about how to get township residents involved. It was estimated that during the first Kiss Hershey Back! event, 26-28 cubic yards of trash and 8-10 cubic yards of recyclables were collected. Ever since then the event has only grown and the current board hopes to make this year the best KHB yet!

This year Kiss Hershey Back will be Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 11 am to 2 pm. The schedule is as follows: pre-event will be from 9 am to 9:30, out to sites by 9:30 am, and the actual clean up/planting from 9:45 am to 11:45 pm. Post-event is from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm.

Meeting with Derry Township Liaison

Our meeting with the township liaison yielded a good harvest. We will be attaining maps of the township the week of December 10th. Permission has been granted to be included in the township's Spring newsletter. Specific areas needing clean-up were given to us as suggestions. efforts are being made to see how we can hang up a banner across highway 422 near Staples. While working on busy roads, the township will be able to provide vests and signs saying "Men Working." And finally, the liaison suggested making posters to display in the library, the administration building, the rec center, etc.

Bring your old cell phones to the pre-event!

Have any of those old cell phones lying around the house, long out of battery life and way out of style? Bring them to the pre-event to recycle them! Not only does this keep Hershey beautiful by preventing hazardous waste but it will also help others around the world! We will be donating them to Hope Phones which is an amazing organization!
